Administrators provide continuous supervision of clients, ensure compliance with state laws and regulations; supervise all operations of the facility; act as liaison with the Department of Social Services and correct deficiencies as noted by the department. They compile regular reports to licensees and to agencies. They arrange for the maintenance and supervision of client cash or property during operating hours. They sometimes give and store medications, arrange for medical and dental care and monitor food intake or special diets. In small facilities where the Administrator is often the owner, they may perform all or most of the functions of the center such as: grooming clients, cooking and serving meals, maintaining client's good hygiene, coordinating and leading social activities and providing transportation.
A formal salary survey is not available; however, references to salaries range widely depending largely on staff size, census size, experience and education.
Job Skills Needed: - Knowledge of supervision and care appropriate to the participants receiving services such as knowledge of nutrition, principles of hygiene and safety practices - Ability to understand and conform to the applicable licensing laws (CA Title 22 Division 6), rules and regulations in areas such as staffing requirements, hygiene and dietary needs - Ability to analyze, maintain or supervise the maintenance of financial and other records such as staff schedules - Compassion when working directly with participants and their families - Good oral and written communications skills Training/Requirements: - Those who own or operate in-home centers are not required by law to have post-secondary education, however most large centers prefer administrators with a bachelor's degree in a related field, as well as experience managing a non-profit agency - Must be 18 years of age or older - First Aid certificate often required - Fingerprint processing required - Proof of current good health (signed by a physician) - Tuberculosis test
