Teachers and Trainers present a variety of subjects to center clients in the areas of: - Daily living skills - Self-advocacy - Personal growth - Home living - Employment - Volunteerism - Ceramics, and - Fine Arts These workers develop and implement curricula and training strategies to match the expressed goals of clients and their guardians, as set forth in the individual service plans. They collect information on each client's progress, maintain client records and reports and facilitate at staff meetings.
A formal salary survey is not available; however, references to hourly salaries range from $8.00 to $10.00 per hour for those with experience. Most larger centers and some small centers offer medical, dental, long-term disability insurance, vacation and sick leave benefits.
Job Skills Needed: - Knowledge and competence in teaching impaired adults who live at home - Ability to communicate effectively with participants, families of participants, health care and social service professionals and team staff members both orally and in writing - Fluency in second language helpful - Patience - Compassion in dealing with people with a variety of physical, mental, emotional and social challenges Training/Requirements: - A bachelor's degree in a human services field, OR - At least one year previous teaching experience with adults - Fingerprint processing required - Proof of current good health (signed by a physician) - First Aid certificate sometimes required - Tuberculosis test mandatory - California driver's license and clear driving record usually required
