Program Directors develop individual programs in accordance with the needs of the day care participant. These plans are based on the initial and continuing assessment of the participant by the multidisciplinary team members who determine the medical and social needs, and specific daily service plan to meet those needs. Program Directors implement and coordinate each program, working closely with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, activity coordinators, health aides and nutritionists, evaluating the participant's changing needs and making necessary program adjustments. Program Directors coordinate an In-service Training Program for staff and supervise employees and volunteers. These include Van Drivers, Activity Coordinators, Nutritionists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Health Aides. They must be on the premises and available to participants and their families during program hours.
References to hourly wages range from $12.00 to $37.00 depending on the staff and numbers of participants, experience and education level. Larger centers and some small centers offer medical, dental, long-term disability insurance, vacation and sick leave benefits.
Job Skills Needed: - Knowledge and competence in working with frail, elderly or impaired adults who live at home - Knowledge of physical, social and mental health programs operating within the licensed health facility or clinic - Ability to communicate effectively to participants, families of participants, health care and social service professionals and team staff members - both orally and in writing - Good organizational skills - Fluency in second language sometimes helpful - Supervisory skills Training/Requirements: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in the fields of nursing, social work, psychology or recreational, occupational, physical therapy, speech therapy, dietetics, or gerontologyˇ - Demonstrated competence in working with the impaired or elderly living at home - Fingerprint processing required - First Aid and CPR certificates required (training sometimes provided)ˇ - Proof of current good health (signed by a physician).
