Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), or "Superfund," authorizes EPA to identify and arrange to clean up waste dumps that contaminate their surroundings and threaten human health. "Superfund" Site Assessment Managers conduct preliminary site assessments and inspections to find out if sites need further EPA action. They manage contractors and State cooperative agreements to get needed work done. They also determine if sites should be listed on the national Priorities List.
