Machinists are skilled workers who make precision metal parts. Machinists who work with NC equipment are usually referred to as NC Machinists. Computer Numerically Controlled Machinists work in machining centers which use automated handling equipment controlled by computers with flexible manufacturing cells, or systems, with two or more machine tools. When machining operations are finished, machinists use precision instruments to verify that the parts meet precise specifications. They then finish and assemble the pieces. Machinists also perform equipment maintenance.
According to a number of California surveys the annual median salary for Numerical Control Machinists ranges from $29,000 to $40,000.
