SPECIAL PROCEDURES TECHNOLOGISTS, ANGIOGRAM (TECHNICAL OCCUPATIONS IN MEDICINE) California Occupational Guide Number 2002-E (part) Interest Area: Emerging Occupations 1995
Special Procedures Technicians, Angiograms use diagnostic imaging equipment to produce angiograms that aid physicians to diagnose and treat diseases. Part of the information gathering process is to insert a catheter (slender flexible tube that is inserted into a body channel, usually a vein, and maintains an opening to an internal cavity) into the patient. Then a fluoroscope is used that goes down the open channel and relays images of the internal organs of body systems that are instantly displayed on a fluorescent screen for the doctor to view. By looking at the image pictures the doctor is able to actually see the activity inside the body and diagnose the illness more accurately. The Angiogram Technologists must know how the equipment works and be able to read and interpret the results.
